Elon Musk, co-leader of Germany’s far-right party Alternative for Germany, restates his assertion that “only the AfD can save Germany” during a live discussion on the controversial social media platform X, praising the party leader.
The virtual meeting between Musk and Alice Weidel took place on Thursday, following Musk’s public support for far-right and anti-establishment parties across Europe. Musk has accused Weidel of interfering in Germany’s upcoming general election on February 23 amidst increasing criticism.
During the 75-minute conversation, Musk commended the anti-immigrant, pro-Kremlin AfD, which secured 21.5% of the vote, coming in second behind the conservative CDU/CSU. Throughout the meeting, he repeatedly mispronounced Weidel’s name as “Weedel.”
Musk and Weidel appeared to reject “woke” sentiments and were in agreement on various issues, including the resolution of the conflict in Ukraine, with Musk asserting that President Trump would swiftly resolve it.
When asked about a manned Mars expedition, Musk mentioned plans for an unmanned spacecraft to Mars in two years and a manned spacecraft in four years, aiming to have “Martians” capable of aiding Earthlings in emergencies.
Weidel wrapped up the conversation by sharing personal anecdotes about her philosophical influences, while Musk continued to engage in German politics, endorsing the AfD and criticizing prominent figures.
