Elon Musk referred to the Prime Minister as a “split personality keel” in connection to a conspiracy theory about unequal treatment of white far-right “protesters” compared to minority groups by the police.
The billionaire owner of X endorsed ideas popularized by Tommy Robinson and Nigel Farage amidst far-right unrest in various cities in England and Belfast.
In response to a video showing someone being arrested for offensive Facebook comments, Musk, one of the wealthiest individuals globally, questioned whether the riots were in the UK or the USSR in tweets directed at Keir Starmer.
Musk’s controversial remarks followed criticism from Downing Street for his comment “civil war is inevitable” under a video of violent riots in Liverpool.
A spokesperson for Mr. Starmer stated that the violence stemmed from a minority of individuals who do not represent the UK, and disagreed with Musk’s views, especially his allowance of far-right figures on social media platforms.
Ministers rejected claims of a “two-tier” policing policy on social media, emphasizing that all individuals causing chaos would face legal consequences regardless of their identity or cause.
Attorney General Shabana Mahmood underscored the importance of upholding the law for all protestors, while praising those who work with law enforcement and community organizations.
On the other hand, Mr. Farage denounced violence in the streets but highlighted a perceived unfairness in the policing system, leading to a sense of injustice.
