On Wednesday, former CNN anchor Don Lemon revealed that Elon Musk had abruptly terminated their contract for Lemon’s new talk show on X (formerly Twitter). Lemon shared on the platform that Musk had cancelled their partnership just hours after filming an interview scheduled for the show’s debut episode. According to Lemon, he received an email from Musk informing him of the contract termination.
Lemon expressed disappointment, stating that Musk’s commitment to a global town square did not seem to include engaging with challenging questions that individuals like Lemon would ask. Musk, on the other hand, mentioned that Lemon’s show might still be canceled, criticizing it for being similar to CNN on social media.
Despite the setback, Lemon confirmed that the interview with Musk would still be broadcast on YouTube and X. He emphasized his commitment to free speech in light of recent events.
Earlier in January, Musk’s company announced a contract with Lemon as part of expanding video content on X. Lemon, a former CNN star, had been fired from the network due to internal conflicts. Musk, previously involved in hosting Tucker Carlson’s show, invited Lemon to join X, expressing interest in collaborating with diverse voices.
Musk has been working to attract talent to X as the platform shifts towards video content, launching a long-form video streaming app for smart TVs. The platform aims to regain ad revenue lost after major companies pulled advertising due to a rise in extremist content, including racism and anti-Semitism.
