Google’s central London office costs as much as a tech unicorn, and the company’s UK boss Debbie Weinstein says it embodies a similar ethos.
“It exudes startup energy,” she explains.
Our meeting takes place on a morning when Google is facing challenges, confronting threats of liquidation restricted to corporate members, rather than focusing solely on its technological prowess.
Earlier, the US Department of Justice stated that Google would need to divest its Chrome browser and make its search index available to competitors, among other requested actions. This follows a judge’s ruling that the company had monopolized the search market.
Despite the disagreements with the judge’s decision, Weinstein emphasizes that Google operates the “best” search engine and is certified as such. However, the judge believes that this success hampers fair competition.
Weinstein anticipates a lengthy legal process that may take years to resolve. In the meantime, her focus remains on the UK and advancements in artificial intelligence.
