Garmin’s most recent smart sports watch condenses all the top-notch features of its premium Forerunner models into a more affordable, simplified running tracker. It boasts a bright OLED screen and a long-lasting battery life.
The Forerunner 165 serves as the new entry-level model in Garmin’s latest lineup, starting at £250 (€280/$250/AU$429) compared to the £430 price tag of the Forerunner 265.
Available in various colors, the watch comes in a single size with a 1.2-inch screen and 43mm case, striking a balance between the smaller and larger variants of the pricier 265 model.
Featuring a crisp OLED display, the watch is compact, lightweight, and comfortable on the wrist. It offers a nice blend of touchscreen functionality and physical buttons seen in recent Garmin watches. You can sync your data to your Android or iPhone and use the Connect app to connect to your computer or the internet.
With the screen always on, the battery lasts around 5 days, allowing for a full night’s sleep and a 40-minute run. While this falls short of the 265’s battery life, it surpasses that of most mainstream smartwatches. Adjusting the screen to turn on only when you rotate your wrist can extend the battery life up to 11 days. The watch consumes about 6% of battery per hour during running and 14% during offline music playback on Spotify.
