According to a new study, phone-related accidents are on the rise, particularly among millennials. The generation most concerned with economic hardship is so addicted to their phones as an escape that they forget where they are in the real world, according to a study published by a science site. After analyzing 10 years of data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, researchers found that technology-related injuries have increased by 20% since 2020, and millennials are the most likely to suffer such incidents. The study attributed this to the rise in telephone-related injuries, which account for 23% of technology-related injuries in the United States. Reported injuries include full-body aches, bruises, and cuts to the face and head, often caused by texting while walking. However, televisions are the number one cause of technology-related injuries nationwide, accounting for 30% of cases, primarily resulting in lower back strains and sprains from lifting heavy boxes. Computers and video game systems have also caused their fair share of damage, particularly in the upper trunk area. The increase in injuries may be due to an increased reliance on technology in daily life, especially as people spend more time working from home due to COVID-19. The pandemic has further increased our dependence on technology for entertainment.
