TikTok faces a blackout in the US on January 19 unless the Biden administration assures service providers that a law banning Chinese-owned social media apps will not be enforced, as upheld by the US Supreme Court on Friday.

Joe Biden’s press secretary mentioned in a statement that the president’s stance on TikTok has been clear for months: it should be available but under ownership that does not pose security threats.
“The future of TikTok is uncertain,” Justice Neil Gorsuch hinted in a concurring opinion, suggesting that President Trump may choose not to enforce the ban.
