The Earthshot Prize: Innovations Making a Difference in Environmental Conservation

The Earthshot Prize shortlist showcases various community-led initiatives tackling environmental challenges like waste reduction, natural regeneration, and clean energy.

Notable mentions include Australia’s indigenous ranger team and Argentina’s AI-powered bushfire detection and warning platform.

India has two finalists this year, with the Earthshot Awards ceremony scheduled for Mumbai. The finalists are Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, a top electric three-wheeler manufacturer, and Mahila Housing Trust, a grassroots organization leading climate resilience efforts for low-income women.

Chosen from around 7,000 nominations spanning 169 countries, the five winners to be announced in November will represent EarthShot’s key categories: protecting and restoring nature, restoring oceans, cleaning the air, building a waste-free world, and repairing the climate. Each winner will receive a £1 million prize to support project scalability.

Among the distinguished Earthshot Prize Council members tasked with selecting the winners are Prince William, Queen Rania Al-Abdullah of Jordan, actress Cate Blanchett, and chef Jose Andrés.

Prince William expressed optimism, stating, “The solution is here. The challenge now is scale. Progress is real, and now we need to accelerate it. That’s exactly why the Earthshot Prize exists.”
