Google Vids provides tools for assembling video projects from webcam recordings, AI-generated videos, imported footage, narration, text, images, music, and shapes. Its right-side panel handles content creation and imports, while the top menus provide controls for transitions, scene layout, additional scenes, and overall project management.
Build a video project using Google Vids
To begin, use the buttons on the right to import audio, video, and images. At the most basic level, click the + button on the timeline to create a new scene, then drag photos or videos from the right panel into the scene.
Right-click the timeline to access additional options. You can mute the audio track imported with a video, add a voiceover or other music, split a scene if you want to keep only part of it, or duplicate a scene to extend the project’s runtime quickly.
The right-side panel changes according to the selected content. You can apply fades to audio tracks and choose from various transitions for video clips. If a scene contains multiple elements, such as shapes moving over a video, you can also adjust their appearance and behavior.
To place text over a video scene, select the scene on the timeline and click the add title button on the right. Select the title within the scene to change its text and styling.
Additional editing tools
The top of the Google Vids interface contains more editing and formatting tools. These menus let you change transitions between scenes, control how elements are positioned within a scene, add new scenes, and manage the entire video project.
The interface also lets you record webcam clips, create AI videos, import footage from Google Drive and Google Photos, add narration, and insert text, images, music, and shapes. When you begin with a template, some of these elements may already be styled to match it.
