The concept of the Anthropocene was originated by chemist and Nobel Prize winner Paul Crutzen at a scientific conference in Mexico in 2000. “We are no longer in the Holocene, but…in the Anthropocene,” he said, keenly aware of the speed and magnitude of industrialized humanity’s impact on the planet.
