Evacuation Orders Issued in California as Wildfires Destroy Homes
Evacuation orders have been issued in California as wildfires spread rapidly, already destroying six homes in the south Los Angeles area. The North Fire broke out in Orange County on Friday, reaching 465 acres by evening and resulting in one firefighter suffering from heatstroke. Officials warn that Santa Ana’s fierce winds will continue into Saturday, heightening the risk of further fires.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued red flags for multiple California counties due to strong wind gusts, low humidity, and dry vegetation creating critical wildfire spread conditions. The North Fire is among 13 active fires in the state, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. In an update Friday night, Division 3 Fire Chief Mark Backoff reported six homes damaged or destroyed in the Norte Fire, with one firefighter sustaining injuries from heat exhaustion. Additional resources are en route to aid in fire suppression efforts.
Online videos show fires ravaging homes in San Clemente and San Juan Capistrano. The Bryson Fire, originating in Malibu, a wealthy coastal city in Los Angeles County, triggered evacuation orders throughout the Santa Monica Mountains and expanded to 147 acres. Over 400 firefighters are currently engaged in battling the blaze.
