An mRNA vaccine for MPOX developed by biotechnology company Moderna has shown promise in monkeys, raising hopes that it may help contain the current outbreak in West and Central Africa. While other vaccines against the virus already exist and helped contain the global MPOX outbreak in 2022, researchers say the new vaccine based on mRNA technology offers a number of advantages.
To date, 35 cases of MPOX have been confirmed in Nigeria.
