NASA and SpaceX Schedule Crew-13 Mission Launch to International Space Station
Preparations are underway for the highly anticipated Crew-13 mission to the International Space Station, with NASA and SpaceX targeting 11:10 a.m. EDT on Thursday, October 1 as the earliest launch opportunity. The mission will take off from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, with final readiness reviews ensuring all systems are ago for liftoff.
Fast Track to the Space Station
Upon liftoff, Falcon 9 will propel SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft into orbit, where it will make its way to the International Space Station. Expected to arrive within nine hours of launch, Dragon will dock at the Harmony module’s forward port at approximately 8 p.m. A meticulously controlled process will see Dragon align and connect with its designated port for a seamless docking procedure.
Harmony, selected for its connectivity features, provides a crucial docking location for visiting spacecraft, facilitating smooth transitions for crew and cargo.
Getting to Know the Crew – 13
Leading the mission as commander is NASA astronaut Jessica Watkins, with NASA astronaut Luke Delaney as pilot. Rounding out the crew are CSA cosmonaut Joshua Kutlik and Roscosmos cosmonaut Sergei Teteryatnikov, who will serve as mission specialists. Upon arrival at the station, the Crew-13 astronauts will join Expedition 75, undertaking long-duration missions focused on scientific research and technology demonstrations.
The Crew-13 team is currently in quarantine at NASA’s Johnson Space Center as a precautionary measure, ensuring their health and keeping illness at bay ahead of their departure for NASA Kennedy scheduled for Saturday, September 26th. Final preparations are in full swing for the big launch on October 1st.
