The world’s largest tree has been rigorously dated for the first time, confirming it is at least 16,000 years old.
This tree, named Pando, is a quivering poplar (Populus tremuloides) Approximately 47,000 stems are connected by root systems spread over approximately 43 hectares in Utah’s Fish Lake National Forest. It has long been thought to be one of the oldest living things on Earth, but scientists didn’t know exactly how old it was.
