There aren’t many laugh-out-loud moments in Mariam Ghani’s documentary about the war on germs, but one highlight is when two British colonial hunters take down a giant paper-mache mosquito in the former Ceylon.
Gani alternates these public information films (a treasure trove of unintentional comedy) with monster movies, documentaries, thrillers, newsreels, and histology lab footage to tell a story that haunts medical metaphors of the body as a fortress plagued by bacteria.
