While dreams can happen during any sleep stage, most vivid dreams occur during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. Fever is believed to disrupt REM sleep, resulting in vivid dreams.
These dreams may consist of distorted images, strange sensations, or fragmented thoughts, and can be very disorienting.
Fever dreams are typically temporary and not harmful, but they can cause anxiety. Ideally, the dreams should diminish once the fever is under control, typically with the use of medications like paracetamol.
