about 40 days after planting, delicate yellow flowers will appear in the lower third of the plant. These self-pollinating flowers will shrivel and wither, revealing a budded ovary called a “peg.”
As the petals wither, the stem of the peg bends downward, pushing the peg into the soil.
Underground, it gradually develops into pods, each containing a pair of seeds, or peanuts.
The whole process from planting to harvest takes around five months.
