The dizzying rise of chatbots powered by large-scale language models (LLMs) made artificial intelligence hard to avoid in 2023. By February, OpenAI’s ChatGPT became the fastest growing app ever. By the end of the year, it was a machine that could do everything: browse the Internet, interpret images, generate requested images, and integrate into many existing tools and services. And it wasn’t the only AI to do so.
