No threats to life were reported Tuesday as a volcano in southwestern Iceland continued to spew lava. The U.S. Embassy in Iceland said that flights to and from Keflavik International Airport were unaffected by the plume and officials said residents would be able to return once the area was declared safe. A total of 30 active volcanoes are under observation in Japan, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency. In 2010, flights across Europe were cancelled due to massive volcanic ash cloud caused by eruptions at the Eyjafjallajökull volcano, which is located southeast of the currently erupting volcano.
