An international investigation by The Guardian, Die Zeit, and Le Monde unveils the inner workings of 76,000 counterfeit websites, identified as one of the largest scams by the UK’s Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
This operation appears to be highly organized, tech-savvy, and ongoing, as evidenced by a vast amount of data analyzed by journalists and IT experts.
Developers at an industrial scale have created numerous bogus online stores selling discounted products from luxury brands like Dior, Nike, Lacoste, Hugo Boss, and more in multiple languages to lure unsuspecting shoppers.
Despite claims of being affiliated with top brands, most consumers reported not receiving the products they ordered, pointing to a deceptive scheme.
