VIDEO game soundtracks don’t get more iconic than Mario Kart. As characters, circuits, and power-ups evolved from the Super Nintendo (SNES) to his N64, Wii, and Switch, so did the music. Each new interpretation comes with familiar melodies from previous Mario Kart games, along with new songs. What could enhance the experience more than having a live jazz band playing familiar Mario Kart songs during a race?
“There’s always been a really natural pairing between video games and their soundtracks,” he explains.

“Everyone has a lick that they remember from Mario Kart. A really classic song came out of that. Live music performances have been done in Mario Kart before, but we wanted to do an updated version of it, and as far as we know, no one had done it, at least not in the US.
The combination of the two seemed very natural. After all, who knows? I love Mario Kart. It’s always a great time.”
