A group of five secretaries of state are planning to send a letter to billionaire X owner Elon Musk, urging him to address the misinformation spread by the social media platform’s Grok AI chatbot regarding 2024 presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
The chatbot incorrectly informed users in certain states that voting deadlines had passed when in fact they had not, leading to confusion among users.
Five state secretaries of state have specifically requested Musk to ensure Grok provides accurate information on the presidential election in order to prevent further dissemination of false information.
According to Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon, the misinformation has reached a wide audience and has been shared multiple times, raising concerns about the impact of false information on public perceptions.
Despite attempts to address the issue with X, Simon noted a lack of response or concern from the company, prompting the officials to take further action to rectify the situation.
The letter highlights the importance of ensuring that AI chatbots like Grok provide accurate and reliable information to users, especially in the context of elections and voting.
Musk’s recent involvement in political campaigns and support for specific candidates has also raised questions about the influence of tech billionaires in shaping public discourse and political narratives.
