One of the most intriguing aspects of games set in the Star Wars universe is the ability to create scenes and stories that would never appear in the movies. Whether you’re engaged with Knights of the Old Republic, Jedi: Fallen Order, or the vintage Star Wars role-playing board game conceived by Greg Kosticyan in the 1990s, there are unique moments that simply cannot be replicated on the silver screen. I can attest to this as I recently emerged victorious in a round of the new Star Wars Unlimited Trading Card Game, all thanks to Luke Skywalker’s valiant lightsaber-wielding C-3PO.
At its core, Star Wars Unlimited operates akin to contemporary trading card games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Magic: The Gathering. Each player possesses a deck of cards featuring characters or vehicles, with health and power/damage values assigned to them. Additionally, characters often boast special abilities indicated on the card’s face, adding strategic complexity. Players take turns deploying cards in the battlefield to engage enemy forces, with victory awarded to the player who annihilates their opponent’s base. The Starter Kit for Star Wars Unlimited comprises two complete decks—Imperial and Rebel—while Booster packs can be acquired for further customization or theme creation.
