Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza Outbreak on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland
Another case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) has been reported on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland, causing a significant impact on a local poultry farm.
The affected farm, which supplies eggs to various UK supermarkets, experienced a sudden and devastating loss of birds due to the virus. Within a span of a few days, over 1,000 birds had succumbed to the illness, prompting immediate action to prevent further spread.
The farm owner, Mr. Armstrong, detailed the emotional turmoil experienced during the outbreak, from initial shock and disbelief to resignation and sadness. The rapid response from authorities led to the culling of all remaining birds to contain the virus.
Armstrong described the heartbreaking sight of countless deceased birds where once stood a thriving flock, emphasizing the profound impact of the outbreak on his livelihood.
