In preparation for one of the most sophisticated surveys of life on other planets, astronomers examined stars that a new multibillion-dollar telescope might target. They found that some species may be better suited to hunting potential extraterrestrial life than others.
NASA plans to launch the Habitable World Observatory (HWO), the successor to the James Webb Space Telescope, in the 2040s. Its main goal is to image 25 Earth-like planets in the habitable zones of Sun-like stars. Water and even life exist there.
