Agility Robotics Unveils Digit 5 Humanoid Robot Designed for Safe Collaboration with Humans

Agility Robotics has introduced Digit 5, the first humanoid robot specifically engineered to operate safely alongside humans in shared workspaces, eliminating the need for physical barriers or isolated work areas within warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Digit 5 is equipped with advanced safety features that enable it to autonomously detect human presence and adjust its movements accordingly. When approaching a person, the robot will either move to avoid contact or remain stationary to allow safe passage. Additionally, Digit 5 can crouch and sit down when a person comes close to ensure a cooperative and safe interaction.

Chief Technology Officer of Agility Robotics, Plus Velagapudi, highlighted the robot’s sophisticated safety protocols, stating, “The robot is designed with a complex safety operating system that can take different mitigation measures depending on the type of human presence detected.”

Early access to Digit 5 will be available to customers in the first half of 2027, with a full launch expected by the end of the year. The unveiling of Digit 5 marks a significant milestone for Agility Robotics, showcasing their commitment to advancing safe human-robot collaboration in industrial settings. The company is currently gearing up its RoboFab facility in Salem, Oregon, to mass-produce the innovative humanoid robots.

Agility Robotics has been at the forefront of the humanoid robot industry, with a strong emphasis on safety as a critical factor in the widespread adoption of robotic technology. The company made history by deploying Digit robots for full-time commercial work at the GXO warehouse in Atlanta back in 2024. Since then, Digit robots have accumulated over 65,000 operational hours in various warehouses and factories throughout North America, with clients such as GXO, Schaeffler, Amazon, and Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada leveraging the advanced robotic solutions.
