II feel nostalgic for many things — music, comics, breakfast cereals — but especially for the old internet. Websites, web forums, and social media had a charm and chaos that no longer exists.
Most of the videos below are over a decade old and appeared on carefully curated playlists I used to enjoy in my living room back in the late 2000s. These are bona fide classics, best viewed on the YouTube app on your Nintendo Wii between the hours of 4AM and 6AM.
1. Risky businesses fail
This video sells itself within the first seven seconds, but keep watching as a girl dressed like Tom Cruise desperately tries to help her injured friend, also dressed like Tom Cruise. The last frame is my favorite.
2. Smooth Side – Morning Walk
I’ve been forcing my friends to watch Nathan Fielder’s videos for the last 15 years now, and I have no plans to stop after the final episode of The Curse. I think this video, the two-minute debut single from his jazz-pop duo Side of Smooth, is the one that first introduced me to Nathan. He definitely grabs attention with his suave facial expressions and fierce vocals, but I wish the other guy from Side of Smooth had kept making videos as well.
