I Discovered a Love for Fitness with This Game-Changing App

For much of my life, I had a strong aversion to exercise. Each time I tried a new fitness plan, I succumbed to monotony and laziness. My gym membership gathered dust, and my home workout equipment lay unused. The only time I managed to maintain a consistent workout routine was with a personal trainer, but at hundreds of dollars an hour in my area, that wasn’t a sustainable option.


For the past three years, I have been using Future Fitness, which has proven to be the next best alternative. This app and membership connects you with actual trainers who personalize your workout regimen and keep you accountable just like an in-person trainer would. While it costs $199/month, which isn’t cheap, it’s the only fitness app that has truly worked for me, making it worth the investment. Here’s why:


Get Into Gear

I first noticed Future Fitness on my Instagram feed early in the pandemic, promoting a free trial. Having gained a bit of weight from inactivity, I figured it was worth a shot. The app prompted me with questions about my goals and fitness habits, then allowed me to select a coach from several available options.

During a preliminary FaceTime call with my chosen coach, we explored my overall fitness aspirations, preferred training schedule, any existing injuries, and the equipment I had access to at home. I’ve gathered a list of the gear I’ve utilized thus far: a yoga mat, resistance bands, two sets of dumbbells, two kettlebells, a suspension trainer, and a Peloton bike. Future coaches can work with whatever equipment you possess, even if you have none.


There is one exception; you will likely need a smartwatch. While it’s not strictly necessary, having one significantly enhances your experience with the app. The smartwatch syncs with the Future app, allowing you and your coach to monitor key details such as your heart rate during workouts and daily activity levels. The watch counts your repetitions for specific exercises, like bicep curls and deadlifts, in addition to tracking spontaneous activities such as extended hikes. I used my Apple Watch, but Future is also compatible with selected Google Wear OS watches.

After our initial consultation, my coach began sending me workout routines via the app, complete with video demonstrations and pre-recorded tips for maintaining proper form. Alongside these strength training sessions, my Future coach can incorporate additional exercises throughout the week if desired. For instance, on days without strength training, I was directed to use my Peloton bike.

Each workout routine typically consists of a quick warm-up, a series of varied exercises, followed by a cool-down. The videos demonstrate how to execute each movement with multiple camera angles and explicit instructions. Strangely enough, I found this clinical method more appealing than the overly enthusiastic styles of many YouTube personalities or loud Peloton music.

However, not everything is straightforward. Initially, some workouts proved to be overly challenging. An in-person trainer could adjust my routine on the fly, but I had to adapt on my own in this case. Thankfully, after reaching out to my coach, she offered alternative exercises (like knee push-ups instead of standard ones) and encouraged me to listen to my body’s needs.

My coach excels at keeping me accountable. Each morning, she messages me to remind me of that day’s workout. My Apple Watch transmits my workout information to her, ensuring transparency. If I take a rest day, she prompts me to refocus. After reviewing my workout stats, she messages me to congratulate me on my efforts and asks for my feedback. This ongoing dialogue with my coach is a significant factor in my ability to adhere to my fitness routine.

I paused my Future Fitness membership due to financial constraints, but I am currently several months into reinvigorating my subscription, and I feel fantastic. My joints ache less, I have more energy throughout the day, and my overall mental well-being has improved. These days, I work out five days a week, up from three initially. It seems I don’t actually dislike exercise after all.

I adore the fact that all bisexual people can find the cool lesbians both intimidating and alluring. If you successfully navigate a date with Amanda, you’re in for one of the most delightful scenes in gaming. They attend an imaginary concert, sharing riffs and laughter over nostalgic chaotic shows. It’s reminiscent of how Nathan Drake and Elena played Crash Bandicoot together in Uncharted 4, creating one of the most genuine relationship moments in the game. (And yes, even after the date goes well, Max stays hesitant to kiss her.)

My passion for queer games exists on both ends of the spectrum. At one end is the “delicate nuance and subtlety,” while the other revels in “delightful confusion.” It resonates with my experience as a bisexual individual.

In the realm of nuance, my initial affection was for the catharsis found in going home and recognizing the peculiarities of my sister Sam and her struggles after being rejected by their parents. There was also the narrative growth that allowed space for new relationships after hardship. More recently, I saw beautiful development in the relationship between Henry and Hans within their kingdom.

On the flip side, there’s ample mischief and sincerity. Thirsty Suitors captures the messy interconnectedness of peculiar dating scenarios and the aftermath when someone is caught up in their own world. As for my game, Crescent County, it leans towards the chaotic side. There’s often a pressure to portray “perfect” queer expressions, which detracts from the characters’ depth and humanity. I get the allure of pure chaos, but we shouldn’t homogenize ourselves for acceptance!

Reflecting on my journey through the gaming era, my kids affectionately refer to it as the “late 1900s” (I feel Dust accumulating on my bones), I recall that villains were often the only characters coded with diversity. Healthy, quirky moments were as uncommon as writers crafting new, original narratives.

That’s why I absolutely cherished Unpacking. While the game revolves around unpacking belongings as you transition between places, it’s a brilliant show-don’t-tell piece. You leave your parents’ home, share a space with a roommate, eventually move in with your boyfriend, who quickly minimizes your space and expression. I turned to my wife, exclaiming, “She’s gay!” But she didn’t take note because I often relate to characters I admire. However, I was right. As the narrative progresses, she encounters her new partner, grows closer, and eventually they have a child and unpack the nursery together. It concludes with what I believe to be the healthiest representation of a lesbian relationship I’ve seen in any video game.

New molecule developed by researchers to combat antimicrobial resistance – a game-changing antibiotic breakthrough

Researchers at Maynooth University have developed a new molecule designed to fight drug-resistant bacteria.

An international team including researchers from Maynooth University has developed a new molecule that has the potential to fight drug-resistant bacteria.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a phenomenon in which bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites evolve over time and become immune to drugs. This resistance makes infections more difficult to cure and increases the risk of prolonged illness and death. With predictions that traditional antibiotics will largely lose their effectiveness by 2050 due to rising AMR levels, finding new ways to eradicate bacteria has become a key scientific priority.

Supramolecular chemistry: the key to fighting AMR

The research leveraged the principles of supramolecular chemistry, a niche scientific field that studies interactions between molecules, to achieve the breakthrough. Most importantly, this study discovered a molecule that is efficient at killing bacteria, yet has very low toxicity to healthy human cells.

New research published in prestigious journal chemistry, in conjunction with World AMR Awareness Week, which will be held from November 18th to 24th. This global campaign, run by the World Health Organization, aims to raise awareness and understanding of AMR in the hope of reducing the emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.

More than 1.2 million people, and likely millions more, died as a direct result of antibiotic-resistant infections in 2019, according to the most comprehensive estimate to date of the global impact of AMR. The research could pave the way for new approaches to tackling the problem, which kills more people each year than HIV/AIDS or malaria.

Luke Brennan, lead researcher in Maynooth University’s Department of Chemistry, said: “We are discovering new molecules and investigating how they bind to anions, negatively charged chemicals that are very important in the context of the biochemistry of life.” It’s laying a fundamental foundation that could help fight a variety of diseases, from cancer to cystic fibrosis.”

A “Trojan horse” approach to resistant bacteria

The study was based on the use of synthetic ion transporters, and the researchers found that the influx of salts (sodium and chloride ions) into bacteria can trigger a series of biochemical events that lead to bacterial cell death. was demonstrated for the first time. Strains of bacteria that are resistant to currently available antibiotics, such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Study co-author Dr Robert Hermes from the Kathleen Lonsdale Institute for Human Health at Maynooth University said: “This study shows how our approach, a kind of ‘Trojan horse’ that causes salt influx into cells, can be used to effectively kill resistant bacteria. It eliminates bacteria in a way that counters known bacterial resistance methods.”

Bacteria work hard to maintain a stable concentration of ions within their cell membranes, and when this delicate balance is disrupted, normal cell function is wreaked havoc and the cell is no longer viable.

Elms continued, “These synthetic molecules bind to chloride ions, enveloping them in a ‘blanket of fat’ and making them easily soluble in bacterial membranes, taking the ions along with them and allowing them to function normally.” Disturbs the ion balance.” This study is a great example of fundamental knowledge of chemical fundamentals that has implications for an unmet need in human health research. ”

Professor Kevin Kavanagh, microbiologist in Maynooth University’s School of Biology, commented: This research is an example of chemists and biologists working together to pioneer the development of new antimicrobial agents with great promise.”

Such results pave the way for the potential development of anion transporters as viable alternatives to currently available antibiotics, which is urgently needed as the problem of AMR continues to grow. This is what has been done.
